When supplying proprietary formats such as Quark Express or InDesign, please save to the lowest version you can and be sure to include all fonts, images and other resources.
Supplying Artwork in PDF Format
PDF is now pretty much the standard for supplying artwork for commercial printing. However, it’s important to ensure your PDF is correctly prepared. There are job options that must be set for commercial printing, these include resolution, compression settings and font embedding.
Please ensure you choose high resolution. Compression settings for colour and greyscale should be down-sampled to 300dpi with "auto compression" set on high. Bitmapped (monochrome: i.e. line art) images should be set at 600dpi. Font embedding should be set to "convert text to outlines".
Make sure there is 3mm bleed all around the PDF. Crop marks should also be included.
Please make sure that all embedded images are CMYK. RGB images may look good on screen but output to print is always CMYK.
If your artwork includes spot colours, make sure they are defined as Pantone colours and you check the ‘Retain Spot Colours’ option when creating the PDF file.
Fonts
Either convert all fonts to outlines or supply all the fonts you have used in the file. Whilst we have an extensive font collection, there is no guarantee the version you have used matches ours and this can create problems with type spacing and line-lengths.
